The ICESat spacecraft launched on Sunday January 12, 2003, carrying GLAS into orbit. The GLAS channels (532 and 1064 nm) must be calibrated and the atmospheric data products validated before the data will be available to the public. This effort is termed GLAS calibration and validation (cal/val), and will take place from February through April 2003.
